Grading exams

For white belts under 12 years old, we use coloured tags to show progress, from yellow to black tag. These are not official gradings and are used to motivate children by showing progress.

In order to progress through the belts, official exams are organised every 2-3 months and are generally held in the Plaza Elíptica club (location) on Sunday mornings. Note, students grading and parents watching do not need to pay the entrace to the Fitness Place gym on the day of the grading.

Children and adults perform the same exam.

The student is prepared for the exam in normal class time and the instructor will inform the students when they are ready for the next grading. Only theory (korean terms, stances and pattern meanings) are to be studied at home before an exam.

Here are the essential study resources for the students preparing for an exam:

  1. Theory, organised by grade. A student is expected to know the previous grade terms also. Exam theory
  2. Stances, organised by grade. Stance theory

Here are some additional resources a student may find useful:

  1. Three step sparring. Example 3-step
  2. ITF Spain Federation. Can be used as a guide of what is expected at each grade. Grading program
  3. ITF Spain Federation. Minimum training hours between gradings. Link
